Description:
The MAUCO Cohort is the first prospective population-based cohort established to investigate the natural history of chronic diseases in Chile. The cohort was assembled in Molina County, a semi-rural community located in south-central Chile. Participants were recruited from the general population between 2014 and 2019 using household census-based sampling. Eligible individuals were adults aged 38 to 74 years residing in Molina. At baseline, comprehensive information was collected on sociodemographic characteristics, health status, lifestyle factors, psychosocial variables, and cognitive symptoms, including subjective cognitive complaints and performance on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). In addition, biometric measurements and laboratory tests were conducted.
The dataset described here comprises a subsample of 400 participants aged 50 years and older who were cognitively unimpaired at baseline and underwent follow-up assessment in 2025 to evaluate cognitive decline. It includes both baseline and follow-up data on sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, marital status, socioeconomic status, and educational attainment among others) and clinical characteristics (self-reported medical conditions, physical measurements, self-rated health, and depressive symptoms assessed using the PHQ-9).The dataset also contains results from a comprehensive cognitive assessment battery, including measures of global cognition (MMSE), language, memory, verbal fluency, executive functioning, visual associative memory, and attention. In addition, it includes proteomic biomarker data obtained from plasma samples collected at baseline and follow-up, profiled using the SomaLogic 11K, Olink HT Explore, and NULISA CNS platforms.
