The study recruited older adults (aged 70 years and over) with cancer, undergoing systemic anticancer treatment (e.g., chemotherapy), with view to advancing personalised care for this growing and typically underrepresented in research population. It was an observational study looking at body composition (the fat, muscle and water content of someone"s body), in order to explore the extent this changes and whether any changes are tumour specific - also the incidence for cancer-related cachexia and sarcopenia (muscle +/- fat wasting conditions), and finally, how body composition informs nutritional management in this population. Measurements included an analysis from the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) machine which quantifies fat, lean muscle, and water content; waist to hip ratio; handgrip strength; calf circumferences. Socio-demographic data also be collected - appropriate for descriptive analysis exploring possible trends and associations.

Pathway:
Potential participants identified from routine clinics: adults aged 70 years and
older, with a cancer diagnosis who are about to receive systemic anti-cancer
treatment. Inclusion criteria required that consenting participants able to
provide at least 2 data sets during the study period (baseline + at least 1
research clinic visit) - with possible research clinics occurring monthly. Study
duration of 7months - data to be censused at End of Study - meaning maximum
theoretical follow-up of 7months, but practically 0-6months.
