The Scottish Morbidity Record 02 (SMR02) is submitted by maternity hospitals to Information Services Division (ISD), who have collected this information since 1975. A wide range of information is collected on the SMR02. For example, the mothers age, height, smoking history, previous obstetric history. Information on the birth includes induction, analgesia, method of delivery, outcome. Information collected on the baby includes apgar score, sex, gestation, weight.

MONTH AND YEAR OF BIRTH

Ethnic group classifies the person according to their own perceived ethnic group and cultural background. (Scotland Census)

ETHNIC_GROUP

ADMISSION_DATE

Inpatient Admission - This is categorised as an emergency, urgent or routine inpatient admission.  The appropriate admission category depends on the clinical condition of the patient as assessed by the receiving consultant.  The patient may or may not be on a waiting list.

ADMISSION_TYPE

Admission reason indicates the general reason why a patient is admitted for inpatient or day case care.

ADMISSION_REASON

Indicates the source of admission, or type of location from which a patient has been admitted.

ADMISSION_TRANSFER_FROM

DISCHARGE_DATE

Discharge type indicates whether a discharge from an inpatient or day case episode is regular, irregular (e.g. self-discharge) or as a result of the patient's death.

DISCHARGE_TYPE

Gives the type of location to which a patient is discharged following an episode of care.

DISCHARGE_TRANSFER_TO

DATE_OF_DELIVERY

The total number of pregnancies experienced by the woman

TOTAL_PREVIOUS_PREGNANCIES

The total number of pregnancies prior to the current one which ended spontaneously with the loss of a non-registerable Fetus

PREVIOUS_SPONTANEOUS_ABORTIONS

The total number of Caesarean sections prior to the current pregnancy carried out to effect delivery of the Fetus

PREVIOUS_CEASAREAN_SECTIONS

The total number of stillbirths prior to the current pregnancy. Available from April 1997 onwards.

TOTAL_PREVIOUS_STILLBIRTHS

The total number of live babies born prior to the current pregnancy who died within the first 28 days of life. Available from April 1997 onwards.

TOTAL_PREVIOUS_NEONATAL_DEATHS

Number of units of alcohol consumed in the course of a typical week. Available from April 1997 onwards.

WEEKLY_ALCOHOL_CONSUMPTION

Whether mother has been given a course of antenatal steroids where it is anticipated the baby will be delivered at less than 36 weeks gestation. Available from April 1997 onwards.

ANTENATAL_STEROIDS

A measure of accuracy of gestation. Available from April 1997 onwards.

CERTAINTY_OF_GESTATION_SCAN

CONDITION_ON_DISCHARGE

Mother's status of diabetes. Available from April 1997 onwards.

The reason given for an assisted delivery coded to ICD10. Available from April 1997 onwards.
