Description:
Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise Test (CPET) parameters in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) (Fontan group): A Retrospective study.
Although the Fontan procedure can increase the survival rate, due to the abnormal nature of the heart there is a range of potentially life threatening complications associated with the condition. Fontan patients can experience a decreased quality of life and be subject to a higher risk of mortality.
This study aims to find out if any Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise parameters might be helpful to be used with Fontan patients that showed an increased risk of mortality due to having a minute ventilation and carbon dioxide production ratio slope of >32.9.
Another aim of this study is to determine if gas exchange capacitance is a good indicator for pulmonary arterial hypertension, a cardiac condition which could lead to chronic heart failure if untreated. Although the Fontan procedure can increase the survival rate, due to the abnormal nature of the heart there is a range of potentially life threatening complications associated with the condition. Fontan patients can experience a decreased quality of life and be subject to a higher risk of mortality.
