SAHSU - NHS England - Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS)
Dataset
Documentation
Description:
The Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) is the national dataset for urgent and emergency care services in England. ECDS replaced the former A&E Commissioning Data Set and provides richer, clinically relevant information to support patient care, healthcare planning, and public health initiatives. ECDS records each attendance at emergency care settings - such as A&E departments, urgent treatment centres, and some walk-in centres - and includes information about the complexity and acuity of attending patients, granular diagnostic data, attendance outcomes, waiting times, referral sources, SNOMED CT-coded diagnoses, and Health Resource Group (HRG) codes.
SAHSU holds a data sharing agreement with NHS England and has access to a restricted subset of variables from the full dataset.
The dataset may be internally linkable with SAHSU's environmental datasets, including air pollution and green space.
