This data can be used to identify causes of death.  As this data does not originate from the health service, it is not originally CHI seeded.  From approx. 2015 onwards, the data was supplied with CHI number, though only covering around 95% of the data.
Prior to 2015, and for those records supplied with no CHI an automated mechanism which identifies over 90% of the records is used to CHI seed.  This is further augmented by manual data entry.

Due to these procedures, this dataset does not necessarily represent all deceased persons.

This dataset is from National Records Scotland (NRS, formerly General Registrar Office (GRO) and contains data relating to the causes of death of patients. This field represents the date death was registered (always populated).

This field represents a unique number to the patient and is anonymised on extraction.

RegNo

The entry number on the register (not unique but continuous based on the start of the Year - or possibly quarter.. not sure).

EntryNo

This field represents the location code at which health activity takes place. In other words, the location code represents the point of delivery of health care. . The statistical considerations for this entry are study specific. It is determined by the researchers in relation to their particular study. In some cases the Statistical Considerations field will remain blank because there is no information to provide for a specific entry. The location entry will only have a purpose if the researcher is studying multiple locations.
